What Is IPL™ Photofacial/Fotofacial?
Photofacials use intense pulsed light (IPL) to repair signs of skin damage, including brown age spots, broken vessels and facial redness from sun damage and rosacea. After a series of treatments, fine lines and pores are diminished
It has now been well demonstrated that regular, repeated, and gentle sessions of intense pulsed light over the years can result in the skin looking younger many years later. Regular , repeated IPL treatments can stimulate collagen and keep the skin looking younger.

What does a Photofacial/Intense Pulsed Light treatment involve?
After removal of makeup, the face is cleaned and cool gel is applied. Goggles are worn to protect the eyes. The treatment does not require anesthesia and feels like a rubber band on the skin. Fifteen to twenty minutes are required to treat the entire face. After the IPL treatment is completed, sunscreen is applied. It is important to avoid sun tanning and suntan sprays for 3 weeks prior to treatment and 3 weeks after treatment. We recommend a series of 3 treatments, one month apart.
Who would benefit from an IPL Photofacial treatment?
People who have blotchy, sun-damaged, or discolored skin, or whose skin is affected by large pores, freckles, or wrinkles, may benefit from an IPL Photofacial. In general, IPL Photofacial works best for the following:
- Dark brown and light brown spots
- Hyperpigmentation (Too much pigment)
- Redness (Rosacea)
- Uneven skin tone
- Telangiectasia (tiny veins)
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
How does the skin look afterwards?
After IPL treatment the skin looks slightly flushed, and this effect usually lasts about 10-30 minutes. Brown spots look slightly darker and form mild crusts which flake off over a few days, so lifting off the brown pigment. You can apply makeup immediately, if desired, and continue with your daily activities.
Are there any special precautions afterwards?
You can wash, swim, and continue your daily activities normally. However, it is recommended not to develop a tan in the couple of weeks after the treatment.
How often can an IPL treatment be performed?
The IPL Photofacial treatment can be performed every four weeks until you have achieved the results you are looking for. We recommend minimum 3 treats. After that, the treatment can be performed once or twice a year to maintain results. When done repeatedly, IPL treatments can stimulate production of new collagen and improve the appearance of fine lines and skin texture. On average it takes about 30 days for new skin cells to be produced. Our nurse will be able to tell you how many treatments are recommended depending on how your skin responds and the amount of time it takes to heal.Schedule An Appointment Today
